Evaluations

Student Evaluations

I depend upon my student evaluations for consistent course and instruction modifications and stabilization. I can tell by these statistics when I, as a person or instructor, had an "off" semester just as I can tell from these snap shots what activities were best received by my students. I take that feedback seriously and implement larger changes at the curriculum design and course policies level as well as at the more immediate, such as content swap out and extra attention paid to things like increasing of class presence. For my most recent student evaluations, feel free to review these reports:

Student Impact Statements

Evaluations do not always provide impacts of teaching beyond course and program objects. It is with emails, Facebook messengers, run-ins at local events, and my favorite, hand written note cards where this feedback is found. Sometimes it is just a smile. While I cannot necessarily share with you those in person hugs, I can share some words. Here are just a few. I hope they make you smile as they made me.

NAS Minor Graduate, End of Course Email:
Dr. Ami,
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! I am truly grateful for your encouragement along the way. I couldn't have reached this point without your guidance and belief in me. Your pride in my achievement means the world to me, and I’m excited to embark on this next chapter. I’ll be sure to keep you updated on my journey!

NAS Minor Graduate, End of Program Email:
Good afternoon, Dr. Ami,
Thank you! All the classes I attend and the knowledge/wisdom I received from you are the wealth I will take with me for the next steps of my academic and career journeys. Although I was not able to make it to the graduation ceremony last week, I still feel proud to have graduated with a NAS minor! In fact, in my other classes, I was trying to persuade my classmates to give it a try. Thank you! I appreciate you and all you do for us students and our people. I think for now, my time with Dine College is over, but I hope to return someday either as staff or faculty... and maybe our paths will cross again.

Psychology BA Graduate, Faculty Ranking Letter of Support:
Dr. Ami created a positive and engaging environment to her students, both in class and on blackboard. She promoted critical thinking and superior graduate school mindset. I believe that she has not only prepared me for the future in Higher Education, but to all students that have taken her classes. She has astonishing presentation skills and provides magnificent high-quality material from both Western and Indigenous literature. She posses both Diné culture and Higher Education knowledge, according to the Diné College Philosophy Sa’ąh Naagháí Bik’eh Hózhóón.

Psychology BA Graduate, Faculty Ranking Letter of Support:
Dr. Ami's expectations of me as a student has pushed me to understand my real potential. She has challenged me academically and this has taught me to be self-disciplined and self-motivated. I feel more confident going out to further my education knowing that I have the knowledge, ability, and potential from earning my grad in her course. I can honestly say that having her part of my academic journey has helped me prepare for graduate school.

Community Impact Statements

Many of the programs, academic, outreach, and service projects, I engage with are more than about establishing networks with communities nor is it for a blanket claim to inclusion. For me, community holds me accountable to how and why I teach in the topics I do. These are my kin through clan and geography. The topics I address allow for Diné people to connect to Indigenous communities across the globe. As I do so, they reground me in home, our mountains, our language, our responsibilities. We hold each other accountable and for that, I am forever grateful to my community for that honest check and balance that we provide to each other.

Letters of support from my community are available upon request.
